“The Umbrella Corp.”

The Center for Student Media at Gulf Coast State College is home to ‘The AlterNation’, ‘Commodore Productions’, and ‘Commodore Waves’.

“The Flip-Side” of what??”

The AlterNation is the student-led radio station at Gulf Coast State College that allows students in ALL fields of study along with community volunteers hands-on learning experience, where they will learn to run a control board and use DJB (Digital Jukebox). Also, students will get the chance to become on-air radio personalities and host their very own radio show! WKGC HD-3 also known as “The Flip-Side of Familiar” is NOT genre specific. What that means is simple; The AlterNation Radio allows its’ DJ’s the chance to play the music they LOVE! Whether it’s Smooth Jazz, K-Pop, or Hip-Hop, to name a few, “The Flip-Side of Familiar” welcomes them all! The AlterNation broadcasts live from Fishbowl Studio located in Student Union East and has the capacity for five DJs to go on-air together at once. If a live broadcast is not your thing, the Advanced Technology Center houses the podcast room, with enough seating and microphones for four people at a time.

Lights! Camera! Action!

At Gulf Coast State College, graduation is held once a year, usually at the beginning of May. The ceremony is something the grads have worked very hard to get to so, naturally, they want to remember it. What better way to do that than film? Commodore Productions crew made up entirely of students, films the entire ceremony, bringing cameras, tripods, and audio equipment to ensure a job well done. The graduation ceremony is an example of one of the many events the student crew of Commodore Productions oversees filming and editing for. Commodore Productions produces GC-TV, a local public broadcast station that airs the numerous shows produced and filmed by the students at Gulf Coast State College. Commodore Productions is also heavily involved in many filming projects within our local community.

Making waves…”splash”

Commodore Waves is the student-run web-based newspaper for Gulf Coast State College. Students could become a journalist and write articles for the student body of Gulf Coast State College. Student journalists will learn the basics of writing; like knowing your audience and how to write for them. Just like ‘The AlterNation Radio’, students in all of the fields of study can become real online journalists.
