Empty Bowls

This April, Gulf Coast State College will be hosting its annual fundraiser, Empty Bowls, to help feed the starving people in our community. It is a tragedy to watch the people in our community suffer in hunger, and they deserve to have a great quality in their lives. That is why GCSC hosts this event every year to help those citizens to prevent them from going into starvation.

ABOUT THE FUNDRAISER

Paul AshmanHosted by the Visual and Performing Arts Division, the fundraiser’s goal is to spread awareness about community hunger and to help raise money to fight it by donating to the family Service Agency of Panama City, as stated in the GCSC event page. The school’s chef, Paul Ashman, and his students in his culinary class will be preparing some soup and bread rolls for the event. And the meals will be served in bowls handcrafted by the student artists of the Center for the Arts, ceramic artist Cindy Smith, Rutherford High School’s National Honors Society students, and the GSCS students, staff, and faculty.

Paul Ashman was a college student over the past 20 years, and his journey got him to being GCSC’s executive pastry chef. He had said back in 1993, “I could have never dreamed that as a student here over 20 years ago my career would bring me full circle back to GCSC!”

The event will take place at the cafeteria in the Commodore Café, on Thursday, April 6 (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM). The price to pay for each meal is $20, and you will get to keep the bowl after your purchase.

It would mean a lot to the community if you are willing to participate at the event and buy the provided food. You will also get to see how nice one of the crafted bowls you’d get would look.
