What is the College Broadcasters, Inc?

There is a variety of resources for college radio stations, TV stations, and media production groups. As a student in The Alternation, you may be wondering about some of the resources that college radio stations have access to, specifically.

Is there a place for college stations to come together and talk through some of the struggles of college radio? Well, there is, and that place is College Broadcasters, Inc! But what is the College Broadcasters, Inc? Well, they are an international organization of student-run electronic media outlets for colleges and high schools.

They specifically provide resources for student media groups, such as The Alternation or our TV station, Commodore Productions.  CBI hosts the annual National Student Electronic Media Convention in the fall. And this includes the awards ceremony for the annual National Student Production Awards. In addition to the awards given out, CBI is a place for non-professionals to gain valuable experience in the world of media.

CBI Conferences

Every fall, CBI does a conference for excited college students that are involved in radio, TV, and any electronic media production. Students from around the country join together to gain knowledge from professionals in these fields. Consequently, it is also a place where students can expand their portfolios and expand their skills in the specified field.

They have done conferences every year starting in the fall of 2012. Last year, for the 2020 conference they did an online conference due to Covid-19. But since the vaccine roll-out, CBI is having the conference in Orlando for 2021 year. It will be on October 27th – 30th at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Additionally, you can find more information on the conference here, www.askcbi.org/2021.
