Who is Dana Erskine?
Dana Erskine is a Radio Production Assistant and student at Gulf Coast State College. Furthermore, she is currently majoring in the DIGITAL MEDIA – PRODUCTION SPECIALIZATION, B.A.S. and received her DIGITAL MEDIA/MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGY, A.S. back in May of 2020. She recently took the summer off but began her Bachelor’s degree in the Fall of 2021.
What is her connection with the Commodore Productions team?
Dana started her classes in the Fall of 2017 and began her production classes that same semester as a student. In the Spring of 2018 is when she decided to start working as a Student Assistant. She has worked with Commodore Productions for roughly three years now.
What is it you do?
I have worked on a variety of projects. From live events in the studio all the way to our live sporting events we have with our basketball, baseball, and softball teams. I have helped with filming for video projects as well. During the pandemic, sports made various training videos so it could be good training videos for younger students in the community. Outside of filming, I have worked on various graphic projects. With the information from Dr. Goines I created the Digital Media Handbook you see in the DG hallway in the ATC building. I have also done the colorful advising sheets that are on the table as well. From there, I was able to move onto logos for other departments.
What is her favorite part?
I will say, though, one of my absolute favorite things that I have had the chance to do here is creating graphics for the program. I fell in love with Graphic design here at the college and while my job now doesn’t require a lot of designing, it is still something I try to do on my personal time.
Additionally, Dana said that working as a Production Assistant has brought out her love for live events. She feels like the events she has worked on with Commodore Productions, although smaller in scale when compared to bigger news production studios, have helped her learn so much about the equipment and how to use it.
What is the plan for the future?
Working as a Production Assistant has helped Dana gain knowledge of how to work in a production setting. She hopes to one day open her own business with her husband. Currently, she is trying to cultivate her portfolio and do more tasks with the Commodore Productions team.
What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining the commodore productions team?
I would say to just jump in. You may not know what you want to do for your career or schooling but this program has such a wide variety of specialties you can focus on that the possibilities are endless. Getting that hands on experience with the live events or the projects we work on is what will make you want to join our team.
I thought I was going to be a photographer before Gulf Coast, but once I took my first graphics class, I knew immediately where my passion was at. If you like video editing, or filming, or radio, or graphics, or live events. The options are so wide for students who want to join Commodore Productions team. And every event, project, and other contributions to the team is something that you can put on your resume for future jobs!
