As we resume the semester and try to establish some kind of routine again, Dr. Melissa Lavender, the Vice President of Student Affairs shared what is being offered to students on campus to help in the recovery process:

  • Lunch will be served in the Student Union East, Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm at least until Thanksgiving Break. Just come by with your student I.D. and sign in to get your FREE hot meal provided by Cahall’s Deli.

Many generous donations have been made to Gulf Coast, both financial and supplies.

  • Michael’s Pantry is set up in the Rosenwald Building. If you need anything from cleaning products, tarps, school supplies, or shoes stop by and pick them up Monday through Friday until 5pm.

  • Cash assistance is being offered through the Gulf Coast State College Foundation. The link for the application can be found on ‘gulfcoast.edu’ under the ‘Tuition and Aid’ tab then through ‘Financial Aid.’

  • For those of you who have relocated or unable to work on a class and are needing to drop some courses: please take proper steps in speaking with your instructor or advisors, and after consideration you may be eligible to drop with a full refund.

  • Counseling will be offered from the Counseling Center to both Gulf Coast and FSU PC students. The meet times are as followed:

  • Tuesday, November 13 – 2:30 – 3:30 (maybe 4:00), Private Dining Room in SUE – Kelly Cartwright David, LMHC, will be joining us and conducting a group discussion
  • Thursday, November 15 – 12:45 – 2:15, Private Dining Room in SUE – This replaces New Beginnings. Students may pick up their free lunch and come into the Private Dining Room for discussion.

  • Beginning Tuesday, November 13, the GCSC Library will be open 24/7 (except for the Thanksgiving holiday & weekend; will close 6PM on Wednesday, November 21 and reopen at 6AM on Monday, November 26)

A message for the students:

“We’re a little bruised and battered but we’re still here, you can knock us down a little bit but we’re getting right back up. We’re all in this together, we care about every individual and how they were impacted from this storm. We want you to know we’re here with you, you don’t have to suffer in silence. Please reach out to anyone with a Gulf Coast nametag on if you have any questions or need to talk with someone… Stay Gulf Coast strong!”
