With the turn of this semester, the FSU E-Sports team is going through a makeover, With a changing of the semester, they are going through and revamping the club. They have gone through changing their officer positions, their club’s name, to even their policies. But what is the FSU E-Sports club about? What does the club hope to accomplish? Here’s a club introduction.

The club has gone through multiple changes throughout the current semester. They have begun the passing of the torch for club roles, and have now elected new people to run the club. Among the other roles being transferred, a new President for the club was elected. The role has now been transferred from Tiffany Griffin to Wesley Williams. And that isn’t the only change the club has been making.
The club had deep roots in anime culture and appreciation, but they’re stepping away from that. One of the club’s previous fundraising ideas, a maid cafe, is no longer an event the club will be attempting in the future as a fundraiser. Along with that, trips to anime conventions like Momocon are no longer events the club will be participating in. In the words of the acting and soon to be club president Wesley, he provided a reason for this change. “Yes, I like anime. And I know a lot of our club members do too. Unfortunately, not everybody does. And outside opinion, like if somebody sees the club and they see that it’s associated with anime, that can kind of be a turnoff and we don’t want that. We want it to be open to as many people as possible. And even it’s like because, because once you’re once you’re in like in any kind of group like that, any kind of media… people who enjoy certain type of media from the outside looking in, it can look weird.” They want the club to be as inclusive to people who are interested as possible.

But the club pushes to be a standout club among those representing both FSU and GCSC, boasting to be one of the largest clubs. They actively are striving to be a club known among both colleges. They are seen participating in multiple school events for the clubs, like in the club rushes, the spring break bash, etc, and even among events hosted by other clubs, like the Gender Summit hosted that was hosted by the FSU Pride Club.

The club already has a host of teams and games that the members participate in, from League of Legends and Overwatch, to various fighting games like Street Fighter, Tekken and even Guilty Gear. They aim to be inclusive, and aim to make it to where anyone can join. If you have a game that you’re interested in and would like to participate in that the club is already representing, you are free to join and participate, and the members are willing to help you in learning the game and learning characters you’re wanting to play. If you have a game you’re interest in that hasn’t been represented yet, you’re free to propose new games to gauge interests, or even bring a game and a team to the club, and fly under the banner of the club. “Anybody who wants to have a have a game that they’re interested in, if they can find a tournament and they can get the requirements… bring it to me, tell me the requirements and we can advertise.” They are fully willing to help you with finding tournaments to participate in, and help you go the mile to be able to enjoy your competitive gameplay at a higher level and on the bigger stages.

While the club will not be meeting during the Summer semester, they are aiming to be active again come the fall semester and the club rush. They have big plans, involving an open to the public Smash Tournament. The details are still in active discussion, but this will be something to keep an eye on in the future. While this club isn’t one that appears whenever searching through the clubs or organizations promoted by the colleges, whether it’s for Gulf Coast or FSU, it is a club listed under the Gaming At FSU banner, with information sparse on their activities. Contrary to their name, they are a club that showcases the strength of the connections between the two colleges, being a club also open to the GCSC students for application. If you are interested in keeping up to date on the club, there’s numerous ways to do so.
