Press Release from Elizabeth Humphries
Panama City, FL – Recently, the Center for Student Media at Gulf Coast State College competed in the Broadcast Education Association’s (BEA) 48-Hour Film Competition – a national challenge where college teams have just two days to write, film, edit, and deliver an original short film.
GCSC students were divided into two teams, and once the clock started, they received their required elements, such as a specific genre, prop, and line of dialogue, and got right to work bringing their story to life. Over the course of 48 hours, they collaborated, problem-solved, and put their creative and technical skills to the test, from shooting and lighting to editing and sound design.
The competition was not only a great test of skill but also a fun reminder of what makes filmmaking such an exciting team effort,” says Daniela Oestreich, GCSC Digital Media faculty. “We’re incredibly proud of the creativity and dedication our students showed throughout the process, and we can’t wait to see where this experience takes them next.”
After the work was submitted, GCSC’s Center for Student Media hosted a red-carpet film premiere on Wednesday, November 19, where both teams were honored and their submissions for the national BEA Film Competition were showcased. During the event, a surprise announcement revealed that one of the teams had placed 3rd nationally in the competition.
