Full Interview with Local Musician George Pierce
Full Circle in Panama City
“I’ve done it all despite my wounded life, I’m still alright.” – From “Full Circle (+)“
These are lyrics written by one of our very own local talents and active
community members, who goes by the name of George Pierce.
A Name You’ll Hear Around Town
George Pierce, a local musician and songwriter, has been active in the Panama
City music scene since 2023. He’s played at open mics, local venues, and even
landed an opportunity to open for the national touring band, Trapt, when they
came through town back in 2024.
His sound and approach to songwriting help him stand out as an artist, even in a
scene full of local talent. Beyond bringing a uniquely engaging performance to
the stage, George is also known as a passionate ally, friend, and community
member here in Panama City, loved by many who know him personally.
From Heartbreak to Shredding Guitar on Stage
George has had a long-standing appreciation for the arts since childhood, though
his creativity extends far beyond music. In addition to songwriting, producing,
and performing, he’s passionate about tattoos (of which he has many), room
design, stickers, nail art, and other creative outlets. These interests were
encouraged by friends and family and continued into his adulthood.
He picked up guitar in 2022 after receiving one for Christmas from an ex-partner.
When that relationship ended, George threw himself into music, during what he
calls his “hotel era”, using the time to experiment with his sound and identity as
a blossoming artist. He wrote his first song after being inspired by the song
“Cool” by Meet Me at the Altar, a fan tribute that turned into something bigger.
From there, he began writing more and more, sharpening his skills not only as a
musician, guitarist, and vocalist but also as an aspiring songwriter and
performer. Since then, he has performed solo across many venues, as well as in
the local band Shore Enough, as their lead guitarist and back-up vocalist. His
journey from hotel hopping to consistently performing, doing what he loves, is
inspiring, but it’s only part of what makes him stand out.
The Person Behind the Performance
George is electric on stage, but off stage, he’s just as memorable. He’s often seen
wearing his signature jean jacket, hand-stitched with patches that reflect what
he cares about. One stand-out patch on his back boldly reads “You are worth the
effort”, a phrase that perfectly captures how he treats others.
He’s an active ally to the LGBTQ+ community, and has performed with Shore
Enough at Pensa Pride in Pensacola last year, as well as Tallahassee Pride more
recently, in March of this year. He has also performed at benefit shows with the
band, including a Palestine Benefit show and a Transgender Support Benefit.
Despite describing himself as naturally shy, George is kind, welcoming, and easy
to connect with. Without diving too deeply into his personal life, it’s clear he’s
faced challenges. Despite this, he’s maintained a positive outlook and
compassionate demeanor. He even talks about how his divorce, while difficult,
gave him the time to start exploring his interest in songwriting more seriously.
Resilient and authentic are perfect words to describe George, the individual, who
is just as compelling off-stage as when he is in his element.
Raw Emotions, Midwest Roots
Professionally speaking, George’s music blends influences from punk and emo
artists across the board. He writes honest lyrics and delivers them with a raw,
emotional vocal, set over energetic acoustic guitar, usually in an alternate tuning,
common to Midwest Emo music, like F major, which adds to his distinctive
sound.
Lyrically, George covers a wide range of material in his original work, including
songs about sobriety, like “Sober Izzy”, love songs, unrequited love songs, and
ones about loss. Each one is carefully crafted and intentional, helping him
connect with fans and casual listeners.
Rooted in the Scene
One of the best things about George Pierce is that he is right here in Panama City.
George visited Panama City, exploring around local hot spots like Pier Park, prior
to moving here in 2018, just after Hurricane Michael.
Today, he frequents a few local open mics, like at Thistle and Thorne on
Wednesday evenings or at Little Village on Sundays. He plans to return to the
stage at Mosey’s Downtown for Monday Night Little Fest in the near future as
well.
The best way to keep up with where he’ll be next is through his social media
accounts, where he posts all his updates under his name, George Pierce.
Catch Him Before Everyone Else Does
George is currently working on new material, set to release later this year, adding
to his growing collection of releases available for streaming.
For now, George is still local enough to chat with you after shows or awkwardly
sign an autograph, if you ask him nicely. If you start paying attention now, you
might one day find yourself telling friends you knew him before he made it big.
All jokes aside, George Pierce is someone worth knowing, as both an artist and a
person. Whether you’re catching him live or listening on a late-night drive, his
music leaves a lasting impression.
Be sure to look him up and see for yourself.
Ellen Bonvenuto
Student Writer - Spring 2026
My name is Ellen, and I’ve been a student at GCSC while I pursue a degree in Digital Media Production. My main interest is music, and I spend most of my free time either writing new music, rehearsing with my band, or attending events to network with other local musicians. I also have a family at home that I dedicate time to as well, with four kids, a wife, two dogs, three cats, and more guitars than I would care to openly admit to. They’re the reason why I do everything else I do. Between my love for music and my love for my family, you can understand who I am and what motivates me to do what I do. That pretty much sums me up.
