Whether it’s your first semester as college student or you’ve had a while studying, you can’t help but wonder: “Am I on the right path?” That is normal, and from first-hand experience, I have asked myself the same question numerous times. Nowadays, society has formed a mentality that -almost- everything needs to be figured out by the time you begin college. Crazy, right??

It is great to come in with a game plan or interest worth majoring in, yet, be open to the idea that it can change. The Digital Media program proudly offers this to students; there is room for growing and finding that passion that sometimes is hard to pin-point.

There are five routes inside the Digital Media program so you can find the perfect one for you. There are certificates, AS degrees, and Bachelor’s degrees available, meaning you choose the level you’d like.

The 12-hour credit certificate specializes in multimedia video production. Next, the 15-hour credit certificate focuses on web design production. Lastly, the 15-hour credit certificate in Digital Media / Multimedia production which can lead to an associate in science degree.

Bachelor’s degree can be followed by an associate’s in science degree. This top-tier education will educate you on digital media and prepare you for job opportunities after graduation.

If that all sounds interesting to you but, you’re majoring in a different program, rest assured you aren’t the first to change paths in the midst of it all. I spoke to Sophie Theiss, a former Business major who is now a senior in the Digital Media Bachelors program. We talked about obstacles and what helped her confidently make the switch to digital media programs.

My biggest insecurity was my lack of knowing what it all consists of. Yet, once I read some of the course of the digital media program and it fit in with a lot more things I was interested in, like video editing and audio editing. I practiced and came to love it all. As you enter the program find your niche, find what drives you to be able to do what you want with your life. Maybe you don’t know at all and that’s one thing that’s good about Digital Media: there’s video production, live production, web design, graphic design, etc. So find your niche and dive into that.
