The Alternation Radio 

Do you want to get paid to be a student DJ? In short, you can do that on The Alternation! In order to become a student DJ you must be a Gulf Coast State College student and are taking at least 6 credit hours of classes. Then you can apply to be a student employee in The Alternation.

There are three types of student employment that you can apply for. They are the

  • Federal Work-Study Program
  • Florida Work Experience Program
  • Student Assistant

Let’s go into details of what each one of these means so you can get paid to be a student DJ!

Types of Student Employment

Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study provide part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial needs, and allows them to earn money to help pay for their education.  Accordingly, this program encourages community service work and work relating to your course of study.

Gulf Coast State College typically receives over $100,000 of Federal Work-Study funding each aid year so you will have a better chance at becoming a student employee just by submitting a FAFSA.

Florida Work Experience Program

The Florida Work Experience Program is a need-based program that provide eligible Florida students work that complement and reinforce their educational and career goals.

Student Assistant

The Student Assistant position is a non-need-based, institutionally funded employment program that provides on-campus opportunities while you go to school. The on-campus jobs give an opportunity to gain work experience as well as provide a flexible schedule to accommodate your coursework.  

Overall, by submitting a student employment application, you will begin getting paid to be a student DJ on The Alternation!

 

What Kind of Work Will You Be Doing?

As a student employee, you are going to work in a variety of capacities. The first and main job in The Alternation is a minimum 1-hour air shift. You can decide the types of songs you will play, what you want to talk about, and how often you are on air. Obviously, there is no limit to getting air time on The Alternation.

The other jobs available is social media manager, writing PSA’s and Promos for the station, working live events, graphic designer, producer, and director.

Generally speaking, by joining The Alternation Radio, you are going to learn skills and techniques that can be utilized in future careers. After all, being a jock in The Alternation is only the beginning of your career in radio broadcasting! Being a student DJ will give you the freedom to talk about something that you are passionate about, too. If you want to speak on social injustice or environmental issues, that is something you can do. In the end,  being a DJ on the Alternation means you get the creative control to make your show unique!
