Misty Curtis a local business woman and mother. She is quotes as saying, “I love what I do, and I love being a part of Bay County. I am thankful for the education I was provided by this area of great schools, and I am excited to raise my children here and see what awesome people they become. I have been married 13 years this June, and I couldn’t be me more proud of my family and the business we created.”

Misty Curtis was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Weldon and Becki Feightner. She has a brother named Mike and a sister named Mandy. At the age of 5, the family moved to Ohio. In 1998, they came, as a family, to Panama City where her father, Weldon, took a job as the General Manager of Knology. Misty started school at A. Crawford Mosley High School in her junior year.

In 2000, Misty started taking classes at the then Gulf Coast Community College, where she graduated in 2002 with an Associates of Arts degree. Misty’s educational journey took her to the University of West Florida in Pensacola, where she graduated in 2005, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. During the time she spent at West Florida, her longtime boyfriend of five years proposed to her. They were married in June of 2004. The couple lived in Pensacola until the home was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in September of 2004. They moved back to Panama City right before the couple graduated from the University of West Florida.

Misty continued the required classes as a student teacher under the guidance of Mrs. Whithouse at Lucille Moore Elementary School. After she had graduated, she took a job as a tutor for students who needed a little bit of extra help with their studies at Parker Elementary School. It was at this time Misty discovered she was expecting her first child, McKenzie, whose birth occurred in January of 2007. Misty started working at the family wedding and party business, The Celebration Place, with her mother, Becki at this point.

After the birth of McKenzie, Misty chose not to return to teaching. Instead, she worked side by side with her mother at The Celebration Place. During this time she grew closer to her mother and learned about the wonderful world of weddings. After her mother passed in 2008, Misty slowly started to add a little of herself to the business that her mother had built.

Misty now has a growing business that is ever changing with the times and a growing family. She has three beautiful girls McKenzie (10), Maycee (6), and Madylinn (4), and a handsome, soon to be one-year-old, son Michael.

Misty and her husband, Michael, also a Gulf Coast Community College Alumni, have a wonderful young family that is filled with love and joy, and that love and joy flow over to a fun loving and thriving business. The business allows them to work with great people and make dreams of magical weddings come true (which is Misty’s favorite part).

The business that brings her so much joy allows her to carry on her mother’s dream and share that joy with all those she comes in contact with. Misty’s vision for the future is to take the occupation she loves and turn it into Bay County’s premier wedding and event business.

Student Author - Spring 2017

Maryann is a designer, front-end developer and family gal. I like to doodle over fonts and pour through code. Designing web interfaces has to be one of the most challenging and rewarding careers, next to teaching. Requiring constant upgrading of knowledge, meeting demanding deadlines and finding solutions to criticism. And that’s why I love it. In my spare time, I spend as much time with my family Geocaching and playing Pokemon Go. I have an incredibly family and patient husband, James and three wonderful children. Chances are, you’ll find me either in front of a computer screen, at school, or with my family.
