We use different types of tech to address certain assignments and/or problems that we may be assigned to. College students come to find themselves sitting behind a computer more and more. The use of computers though depends on the course at hand or if the student is taking the course from home. So how does technology affect the on-campus and off-campus students?

Technology On-Campus

Technology Off-Campus

When it comes to students who are choosing to take classes on campus. The orientation in the use of technology depends on the instructor of the class or the course they are taking. Some courses encourage the use of technology in the classroom while others do not. On-campus students find that there is more of a hands-on type of learning in the classroom.  Most students on campus and taking courses that are considered general course academics. Those students have less interaction with computers and more time with a pen and paper. Even though on-campus students do not have to rely on a working computer most of the time. It does help them to have it as a support system when needed or when the instructor says it is needed. On-campus, classes are also a face-to-face interaction that does not require the student to have the use of technology.

Now for students who are off-campus and are studying from home. They are faced with the use of technology every time they go to class. Off-campus students use technology to write papers, create PowerPoints, hold virtual meetings, and more. If a student finds themself without the tech that they need for the class. It becomes harder for them to be a part of the class. Most of the tests that are given to an online student are focused on the use of a computer. A computer is the most beneficial thing for an online student since they are learning away from campus grounds. Off-campus students also run into the issues of not having a working network and/or internet. Which can become a huge problem for off-campus students especially when it could interfere with an assignment that might be due in a couple of days or the same day.

New and Current Students

Generally, most college students use technology no matter if the course requires it or not. If a student on campus or off-campus were to run into a problem regarding the use of their computer or electronic device. The college will usually have a few computer labs open for use or even the availability of Wi-Fi. For on-campus students that can be easy access for them. Though for off-campus students it could be more of a struggle to get to the campus. So, they would resort to another location where computers and/or Wi-Fi are available. In the event of choosing your classes for the first time consider your understanding and use of technology as it weighs in throughout your college experiences.
