What does it really mean to be a leader, and how do you prepare for leadership across any industry?

In the debut episode of Charting the Course, we sit down with Cara Pattinato, Program Coordinator for the Bachelor’s in Organizational Management at Gulf Coast State College, to explore how leadership, adaptability, and passion shape student success long after graduation.

This episode kicks off our podcast’s mission: spotlighting the people and programs that make Gulf Coast such a dynamic place to learn. Whether you’re a current student, a future Commodore, or someone curious about career pathways, this conversation offers an inside look at how education meets real-world impact.

What Is Organizational Management?

Cara breaks down what Organizational Management really means, and why it’s more than a traditional business degree. With concentrations in Health Services and Corporate Entrepreneurship, the program is designed for students who want to move into leadership roles across healthcare, business, nonprofits, and beyond.

Rather than focusing only on tasks and checklists, the program emphasizes people-centered leadership. Students gain experience in finance, marketing, human resources, and management, building both hard and soft skills that translate across industries.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

One of the standout themes of the episode is hands-on learning. Students in the program collaborate with local nonprofits, developing real marketing campaigns and solutions that make an immediate impact. These projects don’t just build resumes; they build confidence, leadership skills, and professional networks.

Cara shares how this approach benefits a diverse student population, including recent graduates, working professionals, and military students; each bringing unique perspectives into the classroom.

Why It Matters

Beyond earning a degree, Cara hopes students walk away with the confidence to stay true to who they are, adapt to change, and lead with purpose, skills that last far beyond graduation.

If you’re considering your next step, the Organizational Management program offers flexible options, including online coursework and multiple start terms throughout the year. Interested students can reach out to Cara Pattinato at cpattinat@gulfcoast.edu
