Press Release from Elizabeth Humphries
Panama City, FL – Gulf Coast State College’s Theatre Department has earned a Superior rating from the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) for the 2025 production of “The Liar,” directed by Vincent Pelligrino. The FCSAA adjudicator praised the production’s bold interpretation of classical poetry updated for modern audiences, noting the cast’s exceptional skill with the play’s hypnotic rhyming language and their ability to land comedic moments with precision.
The review highlighted the production’s exploration of timeless themes, including truth, identity, and social status, as well as the department’s innovative use of dramaturgy in the program to enhance student and audience engagement with the material. Special recognition was given to students Robert Fairchild, Necia Olds, Tyler Walker, and Luke Barger for their colorful characterizations, strong stage presence, and effective use of movement that brought this classic comedy to life. All of the technical crew were awarded FCSAA Pins for their achievement.
The Superior rating recognizes the collaborative achievement of director, the student cast, and the production’s creative team, including Erica Burger Baillif (Sound and Lights) and Brian Baillif (Set Design), in delivering a performance that resonated with both the adjudicator and contemporary theatergoers.
The next production will be the family-friendly musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, presented in the Amelia Center Theatre, April 10–12, 2026.
