Seventeen’s concert venue in Houston Texas

Ode to You World Tour

The closest I got to meeting a celebrity was back in January 2020 when I went to Seventeen’s “Ode to You” concert for my birthday. Seventeen is a K-pop group that I have been a fan of since 2018. They performed in Houston, Texas, as part of their world tour. I was able to buy an upgraded ticket, meaning I got access to watch Seventeen during their soundcheck. Only a few people could secure these passes, and I saved up money for months to purchase these tickets. I waited in line for five hours to get a good spot upfront. Some girls were in line for two days and camped outside the building. When we were shuttled into the auditorium, I was able to stand next to Alex, a girl I met while waiting in line. Since I went alone, it was nice to have someone to talk with.

I Might Faint

Excitement was in the air as we all waited for Seventeen’s appearance on the stage. The employees instructed us not to take pictures as the members wouldn’t have their makeup on. I remember telling the girl behind me that I might faint and she should watch out. She replied, ” Don’t worry, I’ll catch you,” which significantly calmed my nerves. While looking around, I heard sudden screaming and looked at the stage. Seventeen came out in their casual clothes and waved at us. I instantly felt faint, and my mouth went dry. The first thought that came to my mind was, “They are breathtaking in person.” I couldn’t believe the people I watched on my laptop screen were in front of me. My eyes went to one of the younger members, Vernon. I noticed he had some pimples, and it made me feel comforted because my face also broke out the day before. I know that they are “normal” people but, it felt reassuring to know they deal with these issues.

They sang around four songs and interacted with the small crowd. They talked with us, and we sang songs together. I wanted to make eye contact with a few of them. I thought if I could, even if they never know who I am, they would know I’m their fan. However, every time we were about to lock eyes, I looked away. I was too nervous about maintaining eye contact. If I had one regret, that would be it. To this day, when I think about that concert, I am filled with happiness and a desire to turn back time. I would stay in that moment forever if I could.
