Everyone knows what Pokémon is, with it being the third highest grossing game series of all time. Pokémon is an extremely popular game amongst College students, many of the students grew up with the games or the TV show in their life in one form or the other. Its an integral part of their childhood or just life in general. And now the newest set of games in the series has arrived to the public. Called Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, taking place in a region called Paldea. The game is based heavily around Spain, with a lot of interesting designs for new Pokémon using Spanish culture. Sadly, the game has met with some very mixed reviews after the release. The gameplay is fun and a step forward for the series however, the amount of bugs is unacceptable.

The Good.

fun to explore. The open world idea has always been thrown around for Pokémon. With people begging for the feature to come to the game for years. On top of that the game exclusive Pokémon have an interesting theme. The theme for these two games are future versus tradition. With Violet being the future and Scarlet being tradition. Several quality of life changes have been made for the series. Which includes a changing of the games menu’s to make them much easier to navigate.

There’s also a new mechanic, where you can have your Pokémon battle other wild Pokémon in the open world, unlike normal battles these are instant and don’t put you through animations and actual turn based combat. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet feature some of the best gameplay in the series to date.

The Bad.

The performance of the game is bad, constant drops in the games frame rate can cause the game to come to a standstill at times. Things like pop in for graphic elements, i.e. trees, grass, etc. are constant and make the game look a lot uglier than it should. Character animations can be very choppy and skip frames, making them look unfinished. In addition, the resolution and textures can look unfinished when looked at closely. All these things together almost makes the open world seem like it wasn’t worth the sacrifices for it.

The Ugly.

Sadly, on top of the performance issues and the subpar textures and resolutions for the world, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet features a wide variety of bugs. These can range from the humorous, like body parts stretching. Or, they can be downright game breaking, putting you in future spots, or areas you can’t escape from. While some may say that a few bugs can make a game more entertaining. I say the sheer amount of bugs shows how rushed the game was. Many say that even though the game is one of the most fun in the Pokémon series. But, it simply isn’t worth dealing with all of the bugs that are in the game, even after multiple patches to fix them.
