Students in the Digital Media Program at Gulf Coast State College got the chance to take a behind the scenes tour at WJHG News Channel 7.

On Friday, Nov 14th, students arrived at WJHG News Channel 7, a quck 5 minute drive from their Panama City campus.

Once there, they met with WJHG General Manager Ulysses Carlini, Jr. who personally showed them around the station. The group got to see the ins and out of local news production, discussing a variety of topics involving reporting, show prep, commercial production, sales, and general media trends.

At 11am, students were able to see the station on-air for the midday show. They talked with anchor Emmeline Ivy and meterologist Trey Tonnessen as they performed their show live, and saw all the parts come together – from the news desk to behind the camera, with a look at directing, producing, engineering, and master control.

Seeing the inside of a working station was genuinely eye-opening. I appreciated being able to observe their workflow and ask questions from people who live it every day.
