Last week the Gulf Coast State College Commodores faced off against Pensacola State College Pirates in a four game series. The games took place on April 1st, April 3rd, and a Saturday doubleheader on April 5th 2025. The Commodores took the first two games of the series but fell short in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, which ended up splitting the series 2-2. Both teams fought hard and gave it their all on the field. 

Game One Pitching

Cooper Whited was electric on the mound for the Commodores, securing the win in the first game. Whited gave up five hits and three runs over seven innings. He struck out 14 batters and walked two. Whited’s overall stats so far for the season are total innings pitched 56, total batters faced 232, total pitches thrown 922, total strikeouts 75, strikeouts looking 23, losses 3, wins 3, saves 0. Eze Rojas and Jacob Price came in as relief pitchers and successfully shut down the Pirates lineup.

Game One Batting

Gulf Coast scored six of their seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and turned the game around with a strong offensive showing. Bray Touchstone hit a two run homer to left field providing the biggest blow of the inning. Touchstone led the team with two RBIs and went 2 for 3 at the plate. Brody Langlotz also had two hits during the game. The Commodores committed no errors on the field, with Colton Wombles making 18 plays. Gulf Coast won the game 7-3.

Game Two Pitching

Jordan Martinez earned the win for Gulf Coast in the second game of the series. He allowed six hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, and he struck out three and walked one. Martinez’s overall stats so far for the season are total innings pitched 50, total batters faced 208, total pitches thrown 772, total strikeouts 53, strikeouts looking 13, losses 0, wins 8, saves 0. Ben Clenney, Logan Smothers, and Ryan Apaliski each came on in relief to finish the game. 

Game Two Batting

The Commodores racked up 11 hits in their 8-4 victory. Andrew Johnson led the lineup with three hits in four at bats. Jackson McKenzie and Drew Prosek each batted in two runs. Colton Masse hit a solo home run in the second inning. The team stole four bases during the game. Gulf Coast kept the momentum going and their overall batting average for the season is .261.

Game Three Pitching

Ka’olu Holt started the third game for the Commodores. Holt pitched for six innings and only gave up six hits and two runs. He struck out five batters and walked three. The loss went to the bullpen after Pensacola State came back with a walk off double in the bottom of the seventh. The Commodores dropped this game 6-5 and they deffintly did not go down without a fight!

Jackson McKenzie delivered early with a three run homer in the first inning. He went 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Alex McCranie also picked up two hits. Gulf Coast showed patience at the plate with eight walks in total, and Touchstone led the team with four walks. The team stole three bases in the game.

Game Four Pitching

Jackson McKenzie took the start in game four throwing for five and one-third innings. He allowed two hits and two runs, and he struck out seven batters and walked four. Ben Clenney took the loss in relief. He gave up the walk off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Commodores only collected four hits during game four. Drew Prosek, Colton Masse, Colton Wombles, and Andrew Johnson each had one hit. Prosek and Masse each drove in a run in the top of the first inning. Gulf Coast did not commit an error defensively and made one double play during the game.
