The way of an artists mind
The world of artists and creativity alike is full of different kinds of minds. And those minds all have their own unique way of creating what they make. From their starting point, to the mid way all the way to the finished product there’s a lot more than just putting time and effort into a piece.

Right brain, creative brain
Artists don’t just come up with ideas in their sleep.
To dig in deeper to the psychology of the matter it’s our right brain that functions as the one who comes up with the ideas of creativity. There’s multiple parts in ones mind that contribute to the creative process. The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that handles higher cognitive activity, such as making decisions and solving problems. The limbic system is made up of these structures that help to control our emotions and our motivations. The hippocampus and amygdala, both parts of this system, are especially relevant to creativity and imagination. When you imagine what something might look like, that’s your parietal and occipital lobes at work. These two parts of the brain are responsible for spatial orientation and visual processing.

Artists worst obstacle, Art block
Art block is a point where an artist has found themselves stuck or in a road “block”, hence the name art block. It’s an obstacle where the artist will feel like they struggle to create, and can feel uninspired, demotivated, or frustrated. Its an obstacle where the artist will feel like they don’t have any drive to continue what they were doing. Many times artists and creators in general have stressed themselves with multiple different things and can’t find the motivation to come up with ideas, even if they do have something in mind they can’t find it in them. Though this all seems like a hassle its a natural part of the creative process that can be caused by many factors, including stress, burnout, and self-doubt. A good way to deal or hurdle over this is by reassuring, finding motivation through other artists, and finding inspiration other works.

Practice will never be perfect
But it will always make a huge difference in developing an artist’s skills! The number one reason people quit when attempting to make something is because it didn’t look good the first time. In those moments its important to remember that everyone always starts somewhere when doing something new. It won’t look perfect the first time but it’ll definitely look better each time you continue to practice and improve!
