Pencilchu

By Anissa Lizarraga

This piece shows the Pokémon, Pikachu, created entirely out of pencils. This piece was created using pastel pencils. Lizarraga utilizes pastel yellows and reds to emphasize Pikachu’s features. I love the shading Lizarraga used to create this piece. I also love the usage of the pencil shavings to bring forth features like the eye sockets and the nose contour.

Portrait of Alice

By Alice Wells

This self-portrait was created using acrylic paint on canvas. The warm-toned flower background brings Alice to the forefront of the piece. I love the photorealism that Alice achieved in this painting. The detail in the facial features and the hair texture is astounding work!

In One Moment

This assignment was our one political piece of the semester. We were required to use ink to create this piece, and I decided to use Copic alcohol markers. For the theme, I wanted to address gun violence in America. In doing research for my piece, I was reading an NRA article on the use of AR-15 rifles and the fact that these weapons aren’t used in the hunting setting. If these rifles were used in a hunting setting, it would be overkill (which was my original title for this piece). My piece shows the effects of this rifle on an animal, and also shows a child in the same scope as this same weapon. This brings into question the political state of access to guns and the negative usages that come with gun access in America today.
