Let's Make A Show!

The digital media program at Gulf Coast State College allows for students to create projects that inspire their creative professionalism. It is always an amazing sight to see when students go from their first project, to their final masterpiece. In Malachi’s case, he has gone through trials and triumphs which have resulted in his final capstone project: The Shot List Show. The following article explains the creative processes Malachi endured in creating his newest YouTube Show!

Reclaiming his Creativity:

During Malachi’s first studio production, multiple conflicting ideas were written on the board as to what the class would be creating. This is where the first ideas of The Shot List Show originated. However, Malachi’s show concept got denied by the class’ majority. His class decided to create a show entitled Sus Activity where each week the host would pick a cryptid or a conspiracy theory to elaborate on. What originally started as a triumphant group of students creating this show, slowly dwindled to three musketeers running the whole production at the end of the semester. Malachi saw the lack of influence as the show went on and swore from that day on that he would make sure his next show was more well-prepared for.

...We're Almost There

Going further into Malachi’s production career comes the show: Studio 214. This show’s concept was a basic talk show format where three students (including Malachi) would take on a new talking subject each week. During this show, Malachi says that he “could tell the cast & crew only were doing it for the class grade”. However, he did say that he enjoyed this show more than his first. He allowed this show to be his chance at creating branding materials for the show. Malachi created multiple sources such as the show script each week, thumbnails, segment graphics, and more! He knew he would be able to use these concepts in a later project… which so happened to be The Shot List Show!

Closing the Curtain...

In his third and final production at Gulf Coast, Malachi presents to you The Shot List Show: A show where Malachi and his co-host Jeff discuss films of different themes. For his pilot episode, Malachi decided to take on the topic of movies from 2024! He takes time explaining the plot and casting to Jeff throughout the episode. When asked if he wanted to try anything new in creating this show, Malachi said that, “I wanted to take the things I learned from my last two shows I worked on, and bring some new material to them. I learned the bare bones in hosting and directing in Sus activity, I learned a lot about pre-production in Studio 214, and now I want to apply those concepts to this show. Also, I wanted to get more practice in editing, so I took time to make sure I could edit each episode as well!” Along with the creation and filming of this show, Malachi has also been holding lectures every week to teach fellow Digital Media students how to create something like his capstone! He wanted to take a chance to teach up and comers the do’s and dont’s of the production world (especially when it comes to group projects!)
