Cosplay is a fun and creative world to be a part of but it has its challenges. Staying organized while working on multiple different tasks can be daunting and make you unmotivated to work on it anymore. Here are some tips and tricks on how to stay organized.
1. Keep them together
While this may seem obvious, there has been many times where someone will lose a small peice to their cosplay just because they didn’t keep it with the rest of their cosplay. So, you’ll want to keep each cosplay together yet separate from others so they don’t get mixed together.
2. Have a place to store them
If you’re working with limited space, use a garment bag and hang your cosplays in your closet. If you have more space to work with, get a seperate set of drawers or a cube organizer so you can have things organized. Grace Willow has a great video on how she stores her costumes.
3. Keep away from direct sunlight or other harsh things
Keep those costumes inside. Sunlight can fade coloring on your cosplay just like it can age skin. It is also important to keep cosplays away from any crafting areas. Most cosplayers work with a lot of different glues and paints so its important to keep your cosplays sealed and somewhere safe from the crafts.
4. Label Everything
Whether you stack multiple cosplays in a box or if you have them neatly organized on a cube bookshelf, label each one. You might think you have good memory but you might go to grab a piece of your cosplay and think its missing, only to realize it was actually in the other box. Alice says in her article “How to store your cosplays successfully”, that she labels her storage bins with a white board marker. That way if she ever moves things around she can just erase it off the plastic bins.
5. If its too big, use it as decoration!
Some props are too big to fit in your average storage container or shelving system so why not use them as decoration? Hang a sword on your wall or a lightsaber, it’ll look cool and it’s technically storing it.
